Why do parents insist on taking their young kids on long plane flights then let them ...?

Exactly,my cousin is taking his two kids(who are under 2)on a 9 hour flight when we go on holiday next year with the family,i think it's a bad idea and dont see how he'll enjoy his holiday but him and his girlfriend made the choice to bring the kids :(
