Moving to san fran in the fall and need a job. where should i look and how much should i ask for wage?

Im moving from IL to San fran CA this fall. Should i start looking for a job now? how much should i ask for wage if im applying for retail? Ive worked at abercrombie, the body shop, gamestop, and claires so far. Am i worrying too much? where should i apply? Uhg help.
