What's up with my laptop's battery light?

Okay, so I own a Compaq Armada M700. Just today, when I went to plug it in and turn it on, the battery light keeps blinking orange like it's charging. However, it goes out like it's done charging, then comes back on. It does this an indefinite amount of times. When I unplug it, Windows detects my battery and I run from battery power. When I plug it in, it says it's charging, but if I go into it while the light is on, it says it's charging... what's going on? Is my battery or something screwed?
