Are men more likely to be mugged than women?

I've been mugged before and I think last night somebody was trying to follow me. I crossed the street, slowed down, sped up, crossed again and finally ran home. It was only half past nine o'clock. I wonder why it's like this. My female friends seem to go out and stay out later than me and not have any problems.
