Sydney suburbs near airport ?

There are heaps of apartment blocks in the surrounding area around the airport - most of them are very modern, new and contemporary. I would recommend looking into Bexley. Real estate around Brighton le Sands and Mascot would be more expensive due to their close proximity to the water.
