hypo hyper and isotonic refer to the amount of solute in a solution as compared to another solution. the solution we are comparing is probably the solution outside the cell. in a normal plant cell, the solution inside is hypertonic because it has more solutes and therefore a lower water potential, and water will want to flow in, making the central vacuole turgid, if the two solutions become isotonic then the plant becomes flaccid, and if the solution inside the cell becomes hypotonic to the one outside, the plant cell will plasmolyze or it's membrane will pull away from the wall.
